Tsaghkadzor Open International Chess Tournament kicked off in Armenia2017-11-24
Round 1 games of Tsaghkadzor Open International Chess Tournament took place at Tsaghkadzor Marriott Hotel on November 23. Many surprises happened in the first round of the event. Certainly the most interesting was the game between Alexander Fier and Nino Maisuradze , as they are husband and wife. Usually, such games end in a quick draw, but GM Fier (2583) and WGM Maizuradze decided to “sort out things” over the board. Fier will think twice before playing his wife again as he was crushed in just 23 moves.
Young Armenian players Alen Yeremyan and Eduard Hakobyan pleasantly surprised by winning their games against accordingly GM Psakhis and GM Dzhmuaev. 2nd seed Sergei Zhigalko of Belarus shared a point with young Georgian player Nikolozi Kacharava.
Other favorites won their games.
